Background of the Association for Akha Education and Culture in Thailand
In the year 1981, the Akha Senior leaders who are Baw soev Dzorq baw from the old Saencharoen Village,Li paq A mawl from MaeYao Leepha village, Li gawq kal Laq from Baan See Lhang and Dr. Leo Alting Von Geuseu, a Dutch Researcher together with a group of Akha people from aother area have joined to plan to develop and to resolve akha problemshappening in that time .the main 2 problems on the flow of new religion and the Akha people do not know the Thai language . the two thing affecting to limit in many ways , the inheritance of traditonal rituals, the good Akha culture and The communication with the other people because they do not know Thai Language.
Therefore, the Akha Senior leaders put the development strategy to strenghten the tribe, to conserve and to inherit the way of life to be long lasting by setting up the small project named Akha education and Culture Centre to promote education for children and youth and to study the culture. Later on at the end of the year 1989 the centre is allowed to register the be juristic person named “ Association for Akha education and Culture in Thailand “AFECT” to carry on the development activities the Akha tribe in Thailand including Education , Culture ,Occupation , Environments, Health, Human rights etc. With the target groups of Children, Youth , Women and the Aging till now.
